NTLDR Compressed!

Thats the last thing you would like to see on your Win2k/Win2k3 server. Nevertheless there are some unfortunate days when all things seem to go wrong. On a monday morning as you step in the office, your wierd junior admin informs you that the server has crashed with the above error.. Panic???.. Well you can relax and take a deep breath.. you can whistle too if you wish as there is a solution to get the server back.

You would need the bootable media of Win2k/Win2k3 and the SCSI HDD drivers to excute the solution. If you dont have the drivers you can download the same from your hardware vendor's website. Copy the same on a floppy and keep it ready. Make sure that the files are copied at the root and not under any directory.

Boot the server from the media and press F6 when it prompts to install additional drivers. Insert the floppy and press enter, it should detect your RAID controller. Select the app one and press enter. Once it reaches the Setup screen, go to the recovery console. Supply the administrator password to go to the C promt.
Type the command attrib -c C:\ntldr. This will uncompress the ntldr. Remove the floppy and CD and restart the server... Voila! the server is up and running.
